All About Eucalyptus Oil: The Facts

Eucalyptus Trees

Eucalyptus essential oil is obtained from fresh leaves of the tall, evergreen eucalyptus tree which is native to Australia.

Eucalypts account for about three quarters of all Australian tree flora.

Not all eucalypts are the same. Each of the 20 different species of the tree produce an oil with a unique chemical composition.

Eucalyptus Oil Production

Eucalyptus leaves are harvested before being taken to a distillery. Vapours are extracted from the leaves before they are condensed into a mixture of oil and water.

The oil, being lighter, floats to the top of the water and is decanted off the water.

The oil is later redistilled to remove impurities.

Uses

Eucalyptus Oil has been used for over 100 years in relieving the symptoms of respiratory disorders. It is especially beneficial when suffering from symptoms of cold and flu.
